Because in areas north of the equator, people were fixated on the concept of time because it was crucial for them to be punctual when it came to harvesting crops. If they were not punctual, they would not be able to harvest well and in turn, not survive in the Winter.

People of color, near/south of the equator, did not face the same problem. They could harvest year-round and did not need to be punctual with their crops in order to survive their non-existent Winter.

It’s shaped the way our cultures deal with time. For some, time was not a commodity. Life did not depend on it. For others, being punctual with time was necessary to survive. 

Or something like that.
